Our Leaders

A little bit about myself and WiSport...

  • DOB 1946 in Stevens Point where I still live and bike 2,000 - 3,000 miles each year, trying to be in shape to enter a Wisport event(s) if my wife Sharon lets me.
  • I started bike racing in the mid-80’s after giving up racketball, baseball and basketball (still played softball and refs basketball).
  • The hint from other racers, and my so-so racing ability, triggered an interest in a racing series.
  • So the Wisport Racing Series for the Normally Obsessed: DOB 1989, with a $10 membership fee, and eleven (11) events, from Frederic and Maple to Door County and Menasha, from May 27 to September 3.
  • The oldest female category was 40+; oldest male was 45+.
  • Computers were not invented yet to determine winners, and no disk wheels were allowed.
  • There were lots of prizes at each event, with a building up prize for each age category to divide at the end of the Series.
  • The first year, the longest of the five (5) road races was 32 miles; there were two (2) TTs and four (4) criteriums.
  • Mauston is the only road race still with Wisport. Frederick is the only other place that has an event, now a TT instead of its original RR.
  • Sharon and daughter Jacci got to work - lots of work, and I think fun - at and on events with me. I tried to race, and talk, and talk, and help determine places with the cooperation of the members.
  • I made up many brochures, flyers, letters, stickers, head covers, ads, t-shirts, etc.
  • I stepped away from Wisport after three years, but rapidly returned until thoughtful and determined Dar took over in ’94.
  • My involvement with Wisport has varied in the more than 20 years since Dar.
  • But, my heart continued all those years, with my eyes in the background.
  • And now, thanks to that invention, email, and that Wisport website creation (I don’t go to that weird thing known as facebook), I can stay in contact and watch Wisport.
